Inside Carlos Alcaraz’s home half the size of a tennis court despite fortune

Carlos Alcaraz may be on his way to becoming one of the richest sportsmen on the planet, but he still resides in a small house that is just half the size of a tennis court. Regardless of his burgeoning fame, the four-time Grand Slam champion actually lives at the high-performance academy of his coach and former French Open winner, Juan Carlos Ferrero. Despite his £26million fortune, Alcaraz has chosen to make a 90-square-metre bungalow in Villena, Alicante, his home.

The two-time Wimbledon champion’s life is naturally said to revolve around tennis, and so he hasn’t hesitated to tailor his personal life to ensure he continues his rich vein of form. However, with a standard tennis court for doubles clocking in at 260.87 square meters and a singles court measuring 195.65 square meters, this makes Alcaraz’s abode less than half the size of the courts he has made his name on – a peculiar arrangement for the 21-year-old multi-millionaire.

Alcaraz’s current home is even bigger than where he started living when he first relocated to the academy known as Equelite. The Spanish star’s first residence was believed to be a 25-square-metre mini-cabin; he spent lockdown in that house during the pandemic.

However, since his success, the French Open champion was afforded privileges during his stay in the academy’s residential area and so was handed the current cabin where he now lives. It’s also thought to be the very same house where Ferrero lived when he became world number one.

A glance at the academy shows why Alcaraz has chosen it as the birthplace for more success. Filled with prefabricated wooden houses, there is also a rural hotel where athletes and their families can stay when visiting. Nature also plays a key role in the facility with it surrounded by a luscious green space.

While it’s a somewhat cosy stay for a man of Alcaraz’s means, the cabin is not without its charms. Full and well-maintained bathrooms with a marble finish and a small porch that offers views of the encircling gardens are offset by a house that is almost entirely made of wood.

Its simple and barely decorated aesthetic is said to create a clean environment, a location where Alcaraz can focus on his training and little else. The Ferrero Tennis Academy covers an area of 120,000 square meters and is known for being one of the best tennis academies in the world.

Alcaraz can enjoy 20 tennis courts, a fully equipped gym, and the opportunity to have a personal trainer at every session. Physiotherapists and massage therapists are also available to the star 24-7.

Extras like Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and private parking are all included. On-site restaurant services and laundry facilities are also at his beck and call.

Other athletes who have opted for the simple living of Ferrero’s academy include Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno, five-time major winner Maria Sharapova and former world No.9 Nicolas Almagro. While Alcaraz could very well settle into something resembling a mansion, it’s clear that the young star has prioritised his career, a choice that is paying off very handsomely for him.
