Draper has enjoyed a superb clay-court season so far, reaching the final in Madrid and losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals in Rome a week later.
That has lifted him into the top five of the world rankings for the first time and he will be eyeing a deep run at the French Open to set himself up for what could be a special summer on home soil.
The crowd will not be with him here, though, with the hugely popular Frenchman Monfils on the other side of the court.
Monfils was two sets down in the first round against Hugo Dellien, but the 38-year-old produced a stirring comeback to force a decider and then win it 6-1.
He is now looking to make it past the second round at his home Grand Slam for the first time since 2019.
