Katie Boulter chose her fiance Alex de Minaur over Andy Murray when asked to name her ideal doubles partner. The 28-year-old began dating De Minaur in 2020, with the couple announcing their engagement last year. Boulter qualified for her first Grand Slam in 2017 when she reached the first round of Wimbledon and has since appeared in another 13 Majors.
She is currently ranked at No. 35 on the WTA Tour and will be aiming to progress beyond the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career this summer. De Minaur, meanwhile, is the current No. 11 in the world on the ATP Tour and has reached the last four Grand Slam quarter-finals in a row. Boulter was interviewed for a promo feature dubbed the Sticker Book Challenge at the Miami Open.
And she was asked to choose between Heather Watson, Emma Raducanu, Murray and De Minaur for her ideal doubles partner.
The star paused briefly and mulled the question over before exclaiming that she “had to choose” her life partner.
De Minaur does have pedigree in doubles, having teamed up with Pablo Carreno Busta to clinch victory at the Cincinnati Masters in 2020, with the duo overcoming British pair Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski in the showpiece match.
Andy Murray, meanwhile, ended his career with three ATP 500 doubles titles and also clinched three Grand Slam singles titles.
Boulter was eyeing up her fourth WTA Tour title at the Miami Open, but was dumped out of the tournament by Peyton Stearns in the first round.
She previously discussed her relationship with De Minaur as she told the Sydney Morning Herald: “We had mutual friends and he had a reputation as a good, humble person.
“Then one day, we were staying in the same hotel and bumped into each other at six in the morning and we ended up getting a coffee. From that moment, I knew I was in it for the long haul.”
She added: “Growing up, I was always super close to my grandpa. He took me to training all the time. I always said to myself that if I can find someone who has half his heart, I’ll be the luckiest woman in the world.
“I’ve found that person in Alex. He puts me before himself all the time and takes care of the people around him – his family and his team.”
And De Minaur said he had fallen for Boulter as she was “always in a good mood – smiling and happy.”
