Novak Djokovic set to return to Madrid Open

Novak Djokovic is set to return to the Madrid Open after missing the last two editions, the tournament organisers confirmed on Tuesday.

It will be the 37-year-old’s 13th appearance in Madrid, having first competed there in 2006. Since then, he has claimed the trophy thrice (2011, 2016, 2019), amassing an impressive 30-9 record at the tournament.

His last appearance was in 2022, where he lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal. Alcaraz went on to beat Alexander Zverev in the final and win the title.

The 2025 edition of the tournament is set to take place from April 21 to May 4 at the Caja Magica stadium in Madrid.

Djokovic is currently competing in the Miami Open 2025 and will face Lorenzo Musetti in the Round of 16 after a 6-1, 7-6(1) third-round victory over Argentine lucky Camilo Ugo Carabelli on Sunday.

He has spent more than 400 weeks at number one and now sits fifth in the rankings, but the Serbian showed he cannot be written off and earned a record 411th ATP Masters 1000 match win.
