Lorenzo Musetti has already planned his celebrations after winning a bronze medal in men’s singles at the Olympics.
It was Italy’s first medal in tennis in 100 years.
And the world No. 16 revealed that he would be marking the occasion with a pizza, having been forced to eat the same meal every day for three months.
Asked what would be the first thing he did to celebrate, the 22-year-old replied: “Tonight eat a pizza. I cannot eat plain pasta and chicken one more time. It has been three months, this is all I have been eating. I deserve a pizza.”
Musetti is also excited to bring his medal home to his family. The Italian and his girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri welcomed their first child in March.
“But the first thing I will do once home will be to share this moment with my family,” he added. “I am looking forward to staying with my girlfriend and my son for a few days before leaving for Cincinnati.”
While Ludovico is still far too young to understand what his father has achieved, Musetti is already looking forward to the day he can explain his medal run to his son. “Maybe it is a little obvious but I want to dedicate this to my family,” he said.
“The fact that one day I will be able to tell this tale to my son is very emotional. This victory is for them and for my team, who supports me and loves me. Also to all Italian fans.”
Musetti’s run has been especially impressive after his exploits in Croatia last week. When the Olympics tennis event started last Saturday, the world No. 16 was on court in Umag contesting an ATP 250 final.
