Sinner vs Alcaraz becomes longest French Open final in Open era

The 2025 French Open final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz became the longest-ever French Open final in the history of Open Era on Sunday.

After Sinner took the first two sets, Alcaraz, who’s the defending champion, notched up two consecutive set wins to take the match into a fifth set decider.

In the process, the final crossed the four hour and 42 minutes mark, which was the previous longest final in Roland Garros.

It was the 1982 final between Mats Wilander and Guillermo Vilas which was the longest final of the Paris Grand Slam. That summit clash was won by a teenaged Wilander with a score line of 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-0, 6-4 against third seed Vilas.
