Carlos Alcaraz has climbed up the tennis rich list thanks to his win at the French Open. The Spanish sensation was able to overcome current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner during the final at Roland Garros on Sunday, besting the Italian over the course of five sets and a subsequent tie-break to successfully defend his title.
As a result, it is reported that Alcaraz received a hefty prize pot of around £2.1million, climbing to seventh on the list of tennis players with the most respective career earnings. Thanks to his 20 career titles on the ATP Tour and five Grand Slams, Alcaraz is estimated to have made £33m in terms of total prize money. His win at the French Open at the weekend, also saw him successfully leapfrog Pete Sampras, who reportedly earned just shy of £32m before retiring in 2002.
As per the official ATP site, Alzaraz has earned a total of £5m so far this year with four titles and a record of 37 wins and five losses to his name – while his best season to date in terms of career earnings came in 2023. That year alone, Alcaraz finished the season with a total of £11.2m to show for his success, while he also celebrated the first Grand Slam of his career at Wimbledon with a win over Novak Djokovic.
And should he hope to eclipse Djokovic’s best single-season earnings this year, Alcaraz still has his work cut out. That’s because the Serbian legend, who has a record 24 Grand Slams to his name, made a reported £15.6m in 2015.
It also comes as little to no surprise whatsoever that the 38-year-old leads the list of all-time highest earners in the world of tennis, with a fortune of £138.8m in prize winnings to his name. And with Djokovic still going strong, it seems as though he will continue to add to this.
Alcaraz will look to build upon his fortunes when he returns to Wimbledon this summer, with hopes of running out victorious in London for the third year in a row. While the exact amount he will take home from winning the Grand Slam once again is unknown at present, Alcaraz won a reported £2.7m at the event last year.
Also ahead of him on the tennis rich list in terms of career earnings are second-place Rafael Nadal (£99.7m), Roger Federer in third (£96.5m), Andy Murray in fourth (£47.8m), Alexander Zverev in fifth (£39.5m) and Daniil Medvedev in sixth (£34.2m).
At 22, Alcaraz has plenty of time to catch up with the ‘Big Four’. So too does Sinner, who finds himself behind Sampras with his £30.7m earnings but ahead of Stan Wawrinka, who rounds out the current top 10 on £27.8m.
