Anna Kournivoka has largely disappeared from the public eye since calling time on her successful modelling and tennis careers. But the Russian lives a life of luxury with her popstar royalty husband Enrique Iglesias.
She burst onto the sporting scene as a teenager, debuting on the WTA Tour aged 14. Kournikova never won a singles title but did peak at a career-high ranking of world No.8 in November 2000, with her best solo Grand Slam performance coming at Wimbledon in 1997 when she reached the semi-finals. She lost to eventual champion Martina Hingis in her All England Club debut.
Hingis would go on to become her doubles partner and together they won the Australian Open twice, as well as reaching the final of the French Open. Her time at the top of tennis was short and sweet, as serious back and spinal problems forced her to retire prematurely in 2003.
But she’d become a sensation away from the court, appearing in films, adorning the front cover of magazines, and being the most searched athlete on the internet. It was another of her extracurricular activities that saw her first cross paths with Iglesias.
She appeared in the music video for his 2001 hit Escape. The pair started dating later that year – and they haven’t looked back since.
With the Spaniard primarily growing up in Miami, Kournivoka moved there with him and became an American citizen in 2010. They now reside in a jaw-dropping waterfront mansion.
Iglesias, 49, is claimed to have bought two plots of land in the exclusive gated community of Bay Point in 2009. Just one of them was reported to have set him back £3.9million ($5m).
But that pales in comparison to the approximate £20m ($26m) total cost of building the property. After nearly four years of construction, it was completed in 2013.
It’s said to feature approximately 20,000 square feet of living space. That includes seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.
Also indoors is a home gym where Kournikova has previously shown herself working out. Then outdoors, there’s a lengthy swimming pool and – very aptly – a tennis court.
Having settled into their forever home, Iglesias and Kournikova then started their family. She gave birth to fraternal twins, Lucy and Nicholas, in December 2017, and they welcomed their second daughter, Mary, in January 2020.
Naturally, adjustments had to be made to the property to make it child-friendly. A 16-foot wall was erected around the perimeter of the garden to keep them safe and away from the two docks they have access to.
It’s also surrounded by tall palm trees and hedges, although they don’t spoil the stunning views of Biscayne Bay. Another addition that has been made in the years since is erecting a two-storey single-family residence to the south of the garden, next to the tennis court.
That provides the perfect guest house. As mentioned, the family live a private life, aside from the occasional social media upload.
Kournikova made a rare public appearance in January. She was seen been pushed in a wheelchair around Bal Harbour Shops.
The 43-year-old was wearing an orthopedic boot. She was accompanied by not only a friend who was pushing her, but also her daughters.
What injury she had and how she sustained it remains unclear. But she has the home of her dreams to recover in.
