Leylah Fernandez has urged one of her followers to ‘shoot their shot’ as she is looking to go on a date in Montreal. The Canadian star posted a clip on her Instagram inviting her followers to make contact with her as she has often veered away from dating apps.
Writing to her 349,000 followers, Fernandez said: “This will be fun, right? This isn’t a joke. I fully intend to go on a date in Montreal so go ahead and DM me… time to shoot your shot. PS: you may have to meet my dad beforehand (good luck with that).”
Fernandez then posted a clip of herself explaining more about the ‘competition’, saying: “In Montreal, I would like to go on a date. You know what I really want to do and that I haven’t done is going on a date. I am not a big fan of dating apps.
“So, I actually am gonna do things my way. I am gonna go on one date for one hour in Montreal. If you wanna be my date, DM me, let me know about yourself. See you there!”
Fernandez’s message comes just weeks after her disappointing appearance at Wimbledon. The world No. 29 breezed past British star Hannah Klugman, securing a 6-1 6-3 win, in the first round. However, she then suffered a surprise exit at the hands of Laura Siegemund, being knocked out of the competition in straight sets.
Fernandez also joined forces with New Zealand’s Lulu Sun in doubles, but the pair underwhelmed too. They were beaten in straight sets in the first round by Demi Schuurs and Asia Muhammad, who were then knocked out in the following round.
Fernandez has endured a shaky last few months with early exits from the French Open and Wimbledon highlighting that she is not at the peak of her powers currently. But with the Mubadala Citi DC Open approaching next week, she will be keen to bounce back to form.
The hard-court event could see Fernandez find her rhythm before she returns back to Montreal, and it would certainly give her something to talk about with whoever she decides to go on a date with back in her homeland.
