Jil Teichmann’s aggression trumped Mananchaya Sanwangkaew’s deft touches to lift the title at the L&T Mumbai Open WTA 125 here on Sunday.
In what was a showdown between contrasting styles, the Swiss former world no 21 comfortably cruised past Thailand’s Sawangkaew in a 6-3, 6-4 win.
The 27-year-old Teichmann played to her strengths, with her powerful serves, solid forehands and net rushing helping her take the opening game of the first set.
Sawangkaew matched her energy early on, with a stunning ace to level points.

Teichmann’s relentlessness and physical stamina, however, helpd her surge ahead. The Swiss dominated rallies, producing stunning cross-court shots and backhand winners. Her perfect serves down the ‘T’ were particularly clinical and helped her claim four consecutive games to take a 5-1 lead.
After a series of rallies, Sawangkaew broke Teichmann’s serve to bag her second point of the set. Her resistance even earned a thumbs-up and a smile from her opponent.
That said, Teichmann could not be denied as she used pure power to seal the first set.
A similar script played out early in the second set. The left-handed Teichmann quickly broke Sawangkaew’s serve and then relied on her forehand to go 2-0 up.
Sawangkaew persevered to win consecutive games, levelling the score 3-3.
However, Teichmann stood strong to win the final in straight sets.
