‘Serial killer’ who likened himself to Michael Myers jailed for 261 years

A self-declared “serial killer” who likened himself to the fictional Halloween character Michael Myers has been sentenced to a further 159 years in jail.

Joshua Dotson, 24, pleaded guilty to the first-degree murders of three people in Tennessee in 2019 and 2020.

He was convicted last year of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Jamesha Covson and her unborn baby, and was jailed for 102 years, according to Shelby County prosecutors.

Ms Covson, 19, was several months pregnant when Dotson shot through her door and broke into her home in June 2020.

Witnesses said Dotson left the scene but returned and shot Ms Covson several times.

“After five years, we are pleased to finally have justice for Dotson’s multiple victims,” Shelby County assistant district attorney Regina Lucreziano said.

“His sentences, both from the guilty verdict after a trial and these two pleas today, amount to 261 years in prison.

“While no amount of time in prison will bring the victims back to their loved ones, we are content that he will never be a threat to our community again.”

During Dotson’s trial for his ex-girlfriend’s murder, he testified in his own defence, referring to himself as a “serial killer”.

He also likened himself to the fictional killer Michael Myers from the Halloween films.
